RMA Cancels Spring Convention & Tradeshow

Nisku, AB, March 12, 2020 – In light of the growing concern regarding the spread of COVID-19, the Rural Municipalities of Alberta (RMA) has made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Spring Convention & Tradeshow, originally scheduled for March 16 – 18, 2020 at the Edmonton Convention Centre (ECC). Registered delegates of the event will be receiving a full refund.

The decision to cancel was reached at an emergency meeting of the association’s board of directors, who felt that the responsibility to prevent possible spread of the virus and protect the health of members, delegates, and government partners was paramount.

“We apologize to our members and vendors for any inconvenience this may cause, but the health and safety of our municipal leaders and convention delegates is a priority,” said Al Kemmere, President of the RMA. “Though this decision was a difficult one, Alberta Health Services has communicated that cancelling our event would be the right thing to do.”

The RMA will redirect efforts towards planning the 2020 Fall Convention, scheduled for November 2 – 5, 2020.
