The RMA 2024 Spring Convention will take place March 18 – 20, 2024 at the Edmonton Convention Centre
Convention Program
The convention program is packed starting on Monday, March 18 with two fully subscribed EOEP courses and an afternoon full of workshops including:
- Keeping it Together: An Introduction to De-escalation
- Leveraging Data: How Municipalities Can Take Advantage of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science sponsored by FortisAlberta
- Building Your Municipality – One Consulting Engineer at a Time!
On Tuesday, March 19, we kick the morning off with plenary addresses from the Minister of Municipal Affairs, the RMA, and the Federation of Canadian Municipalities. The Ministerial Forum is also scheduled to provide opportunity for members to ask pressing questions impacting rural Alberta.
Sponsored by Premier Fire and Flood Restoration, our opening keynote speaker Corey Hirsch, who will share his story of mental health challenges and perseverance and take us into lunch and workshops.
Tuesday’s workshops are:
- Let’s Talk About It: Rural Access to Addiction Supports
- Growing Agri-tourism
- Vibrant Landscapes: Helping Farmers Sow Resiliency, One Acre at a Time
The Natural Resources Conservation Board will present after the workshops, and we will be joined by participants in the RMA Economic Development Microgrant to update you on their projects. To finish out our day the relaunch of Canoe Benefits will enlighten you before we get down to business with our resolutions session.
The final day of convention, Wednesday, March 20, will include the second Ministerial Forum. Other plenary topics include the Rural Health Professions Action Plan, Community Recovery Services, and an update on the RMA’s Rural Municipal Infrastructure Deficit project. We will close out the convention with an inspiring and passionate keynote speaker, Neville Wright, who will share his wisdom on how we can set our foundation for achieving success in life.
Social & Networking Events
Several RMA-sanctioned social events take place during convention that provide valuable networking opportunities for convention delegates.
On Monday, March 18, visit Alberta Counsel’s and Brownlee LLP’s hospitality suites. On Tuesday, March 19, visit the Municipal Affairs Open House and join Canoe Benefits for their re-launch hospitality suite.
