The RMA is expanding its physical space to continue to serve members effectively
Due to growth of the organization and its business subsidiaries, the Rural Municipalities of Alberta (RMA) is expanding its headquarters in Nisku, Leduc County, Alberta. We look forward to the office expansion, which will house all our staff under one roof. It will also include new spaces, such as a meeting and training facility, to better serve our members and partners. The expansion project commenced November 2021 and is projected to be completed by December 2022.
Rural Municipalities of Alberta
The Rural Municipalities of Alberta (RMA) is an independent association comprising Alberta’s 69 counties and municipal districts. Since 1909, we have helped rural municipalities achieve strong, effective, local government. For more than 100 years, we’ve made it our mission to ensure the interests of rural Alberta municipalities are effectively represented. Over time, we’ve evolved with the changing needs of our members and associate members, within Alberta and beyond, to remain relevant and valued to those we serve.
RMA Insurance
RMA Insurance is a member-owned, non-profit organization with one central goal: to help organizations gain the safety and service needed while helping control and reduce long-term risk-related costs. RMA insurance has experienced staff who can match organizations with the right insurance and risk management program.
RMA Insurance was founded in 1955 to give rural municipalities access to tailored insurance services. Over the years, the insurance program has evolved to better serve its members, including expanded coverage, comprehensive best-in-class risk management services, and the formation of a member-owned insurance reciprocal: Genesis Reciprocal Insurance Exchange. As a result, the insurance program navigated catastrophic events in a problematic insurance market with only modest increases, while other programs have seen triple digit increases without being fully insured.
Recent member growth of the insurance program has given all members added premium stability while diversifying the overall risk profile. The RMA team continues to develop new programs and services to bring additional value to the membership.
Canoe Procurement Group of Canada
In 1936, a handful of Western Canadian municipalities decided to combine their purchasing power to procure common necessities for their communities at better prices. This practice proved effective, and the program was gradually expanded to provide extensive member benefit across Canada.
In 2020, the RMA partnered with municipal associations across Canada to create the Canoe Procurement Group of Canada, to become one of the largest public sector buying groups in the country. The name was chosen to honour the time long before the Trans-Canada Highway or even the Canadian Pacific Railway, when exploration and trade throughout Canada was facilitated by canoe.
By combining the purchasing power of over 5,000 public and not-for-profit organizations throughout Canada, Canoe is uniquely positioned to get members access to a wide range of trade-compliant products and services at preferred rates.
Watch for something uniquely rural to rise from the ground!
