Alberta Energy Regulator launches 60-day review of Participant Involvement Process.
The Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) has released a draft of Directive XXX – Participant Involvement and is looking for public feedback within the next 60 days. The directive is part of a regulatory framework that seeks to ensure members of the public are informed about proposed and existing energy resource developments and have the opportunity to provide input regarding those developments.
In fall 2017, AER hosted sessions with industry, Albertans, and Indigenous communities to help collect feedback on how they wanted to engage with one another about proposed energy development. Following these sessions, AER established a Participant Involvement Advisory Panel in February 2018 to help draft enhanced public involvement requirements using the feedback received.
AER recommends interested participants review the draft manual that provides guidance, context, and examples to help understand the draft directive requirements and expectations.
When finalized, the directive will replace the existing participant involvement requirements in section 3 of Directive 056: Energy Development Applications and Schedules and section 4 of draft Directive 023: Oil Sands Project Applications. It will apply to activities regulated under Part 8 of the Mines and Minerals Act.
There are three ways to submit your feedback on the Draft Directive on Public Involvement Comment Form [Word file]:
- Email Involvement@aer.ca
