Rural economic development is strongly linked to healthy rural communities.
Home to one of the largest business parks and most comprehensive distribution systems in North America, Leduc County is a true incubator for business. From manufacturing and agri-foods processing to transportation and logistics, Leduc County is no stranger to the benefits of economic development in rural municipalities.
With roots in agriculture and oil and gas, it was important for the county to encourage, enable, and allow investment in further sectors to attract economic development that work in synergy with both established sectors and new sectors.
“Rural municipalities have a great deal of pride. There is a real opportunity to take the centre stage when it comes to development, how we live, and what we can provide residents in rural municipalities.”
Leduc County has taken a pro-business approach that encourages development in the spirit of innovation. Mayor of Leduc County Tanni Doblanko recognizes that a strong economic development team is crucial to attracting and retaining the diverse variety of businesses that thrive in the county. This team works diligently to complete permits and inspections efficiently to ensure that businesses have as much time as possible to get started.
When the Amazon customer fulfillment centre came to Leduc County, a grading certificate was granted within seven days, allowing them to begin setting up and therefore almost immediately getting people to work.
Economic development is so much more than just attracting businesses – it helps to expand the tax base so that rural municipalities can provide a wider range of services to their residents. It attracts families, social services, healthcare, and supports strong vibrant rural communities.
“Easy to invest and excited to stay.”
