The AAMDC continues to monitor the implementation of the Land-use Framework and provide input to the Government of Alberta where appropriate. The Lower Athabasca Regional Plan was the first to be approved and it is anticipated that the South Saskatchewan Regional Plan will be next. The Government of Alberta is aiming to have all plans complete by 2015.
In 2011, the AAMDC requested member nominations for participation on the next Regional Advisory Councils (RACs) in anticipation of the Government of Alberta’s request for submission. With the municipal election taking place in October 2013, those submissions will have to be reviewed and additional nomination requests will be distributed via member bulletin.
The Land-use Framework is a positive document that will assist municipalities in planning for the future, and the AAMDC’s continued involvement in stakeholder consultations is of paramount importance.

Internal Notes:
Sustainable Resource Development regarding the progress of the LUF. The AAMDC has submitted names for the first Regional Advisory Councils, and has been assured one seat will be available on each RAC for an AAMDC representative. The first RAC to release its recommendations was the Lower Athabasca RAC in August 2010. A member bulletin outlining these recommendations was distributed in September 2010. In the spring of 2009, Bill 36, the Alberta Land Stewardship Act, was introduced and passed in the legislature. In the fall of 2009, it received royal assent. Since much of the detail will be determined through policies and regulations, the AAMDC is actively monitoring the siutations to ensure the rural municipal voice is heard. Overall, the Land-use Framework is a positive document that will assist municipalities in planning for the future, but the AAMDC’s continued involvement in stakeholder consultations is of paramount importance.
