Preamble:

WHEREAS strategic planning is an important process in establishing a clear picture of organizational expectations in serving members and clients; and

WHEREAS a strategic plan will assist the AAMDC Board of Directors and staff in ensuring association activities align with strategic priorities; and

WHEREAS the AAMDC’s previous strategic plan, Building on Strength, expires in 2010;

Operative Clause:

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Alberta Association of Municipal Districts and Counties adopts Mapping Success: The AAMDC Strategic Plan as the strategic direction for the organization from November 2010 to March 2014.

Member Background:

The mission and vision of the AAMDC were set in 1999 and reviewed again in 2007 during the development of Building on Strength: The AAMDC Strategic Plan 2007-2010.  Since Building on Strength expires in 2010, it is necessary for the organization to once again undertake a strategic planning process.  By undertaking this process, the AAMDC will articulate its strategic direction and, importantly, map out how it will be achieved.

The purpose of the 2010 strategic planning process was to revise or re-affirm the mission and vision, and create a tool to guide the AAMDC’s activities from November 2010 to March 2014.  In drafting Mapping Success, the association chose to stress the importance of balancing all contributors to success: employees, internal processes, finances and clients.

Based on this draft document, the AAMDC membership was given seven weeks to review the plan and provide feedback.   The revised version of Mapping Success was distributed to the membership in the resolutions package and is not, due to size constraints, in the convention handbook.  Copies will be available on tables for the resolution session. Copies of the revised draft can be found by logging in to www.aamdc.com and following this path: Advocacy > Publications > Reports > DRAFT Mapping Success: The AAMDC Strategic Plan.  If approved by the members, the final version of Mapping Success will be publicly available at www.aamdc.com.
