Wind and Solar Fact Sheets for Municipalities – AVAILABLE NOW

The AAMDC in partnership with the Miistakis Institute and Wheatland County have developed two fact sheets to help guide municipalities through the project proposal and approval process.

The first factsheet provides an overview the regulatory process for renewable energy in Alberta and how municipalities can be involved. It includes an outline of the approval process and the role of different provincial agencies including the Alberta Utilities Commission, the Alberta Energy System Operator, and Alberta Environment and Parks (AEP). Available here:

Renewable Energy Development in Alberta: Regulatory Resources for Municipalities

The second factsheet provides an overview of the ecological considerations for renewable energy and details items municipalities should be aware of when new projects are proposed within their municipality. It includes various environmental regulations and policies including AEP’s Solar Wildlife Directives, AEP Wind Wildlife Directives, and access to Renewable Energy and Wildlife Sensitivity Maps.
