Updated National Broadband Internet Service Map

Government of Canada map updated from previous 2021 version

Innovation, Science and Economic Development (ISED) Canada published an update to the National Broadband Internet Service Availability Map. This map displays current and planned internet service availability across Canada.

This version of the map includes new internet coverage information based on data obtained since the last map was updated in January 2021. Data used to update the map is collected in partnership with the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) through annual surveys and ongoing consultation with key stakeholders, including Internet Service Providers (ISPs), federal partners, industry associations, provinces, and others.

This update to the map incorporates a new process developed by ISED and the Communication Research Centre of Canada (CRC) to improve the accuracy of high-speed Internet mapping data that displays fixed wireless services, which are used to deliver internet in many rural areas. The new Fixed Wireless Assessment tool (FWA) uses ISED’s population and household data, ISP coverage maps, and detailed wireless tower locations to test if broadband speeds (defined as 50/10 Megabits per second) reach all households in a defined area. Detailed information on the development and use of this tool is available in the Capability Evaluation of Fixed Wireless Access Systems to Deliver Broadband Internet Services.

Going forward, the National Broadband Map will be updated twice a year to reflect new data and investments in broadband infrastructure by the Government of Canada. Universal Broadband Fund projects will be added to the map as contribution agreements are signed.
