Indigenous Corporate Training Inc. has two short publications available that give tips for municipal governments looking to engage with Indigenous peoples and communities. Both publications walk through a series of what to not say or do when working effectively with Indigenous Peoples.
The first, available here, provides information to prepare municipalities to understand specifics related to face-to-face engagement, including tips related to dress, and the role of silent periods during discussions.
The second, available here, gives tips, including working to establish a relationship prior to meeting for a specific request or need, the importance of honouring all agreements, especially oral agreements, and expectations regarding participation in cultural events and requesting for protocol guidance from the host.
This organization also does in person training, workshops, and has both free resources online in the form of ebooks and blog posts.
