Rural Municipalities of Alberta (RMA) and Alberta Urban Municipalities Association (AUMA), with Municipal Affairs have been offering FREE SDAB workshops since the beginning of July. These sessions have sold out almost immediately and with the intent to assist as much as possible, there was an open application process designed through which municipalities would complete an application form to partner with RMA and AUMA in hosting local SDAB workshops. The applications have been reviewed and successful applicants have been notified. At this point in the project, there are no future workshop rounds planned.
Recognizing the requirement for training under the Municipal Government Act (MGA), it is now imperative that those who have not yet received training source their own sessions. As a reminder, Municipal Affairs has made the SDAB curriculum and supporting materials available to the public on the Municipal Affairs website.
RMA encourages municipalities to consider the option of regional or partnered SDABs as SDABs are an essential part of the land use planning and development framework in Alberta. Some municipalities may not require a standalone SDAB, and a regional SDAB may improve efficiency for all municipalities involved.
