The RMA has partnered with the Government of Alberta to help members establish effective Economic Development Advisory Committees
The RMA has received funding from the Government of Alberta’s Economic Development in Rural Alberta Plan (EDRAP) to create a Rural Economic Development Committee Toolkit. This toolkit will be a crucial resource for municipalities across the province that may not have the capacity to support economic development initiatives in their community. To assist with the creation of this toolkit, the RMA is seeking to support a few member municipalities in the creation of their own Economic Development Advisory Committee.
The objectives of establishing and supporting Economic Development Advisory Committees include:
- Leveraging private sector expertise to guide local government economic development programs
- Improving awareness and access to economic development funding programs
- Enhancing local government capacity to establish economic development priorities, projects, and programs
To achieve these objectives, the RMA will support members to:
- Set up an Economic Development Advisory Committee made up of public sector and private sector interests
- Establish economic development priorities specific to the county or region
- Identify unique economic development program and project opportunities that align with federal or provincial funding sources
- Build business cases for pursuing key economic development projects and programs
Expressions of interest can be submitted online here. The form includes two multiple choice questions aimed at learning more about the economic development capacity already in place in your community.
Please submit your interest in participating in the Rural Economic Development Initiative prior to September 30, 2024.
