The Government of Canada released two strategic documents.
The Honourable Bernadette Jordan, Canadian Minister of Rural Economic Development has published two strategic documents related to rural economic development broadly and rural connectivity specifically. The Economic Development Strategy for Rural Canada brings together information on Government of Canada activities, including funding for rural economic diversification, rural infrastructure, and working collaboratively. Canada’s Connectivity Strategy provides a summary of existing funding commitments to provide all Canadians with highspeed internet by 2030.
These reports are a result of meetings with rural stakeholders, including the RMA Board of Directors, who met with Minister Jordan in March to discuss areas of concern for Alberta’s rural municipalities.
RMA will continue to monitor for funding opportunities for municipalities to apply for economic development programs and broadband funding.
