The RMA has shared a submission with Justice and Solicitor General opposing the creation of an Alberta Provincial Police Service
The RMA has provided input to the Minister of Justice and Solicitor General opposing the creation of an Alberta Provincial Police Service (APPS). This submission is based on direction provided to the RMA by members through Resolution 4-22S: Continued Support for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Alberta. The submission highlights the RMA’s priorities as it relates to service levels, costs, and local input on policing. Based on the RMA’s analysis, the proposed model does not adequately explain how an APPS will positively impact these priorities.
In addition to the submission, the RMA also issued a press release to share the message widely and an issue backgrounder summarizing the RMA’s concerns with the transition proposal and engagement process.
