Due to the cancellation of the 2020 Spring Convention, RMA will hold its first ever virtual resolution session on April 24
Resolutions form an important part of RMA’s advocacy efforts. RMA holds two resolution sessions each year in conjunction with spring and fall conventions. Due to the cancellation of the RMA 2020 Spring Convention, RMA will hold its first-ever virtual resolution session on April 24, 2020.
As the resolution session will only be open to RMA voting members and relevant municipal staff, an email has been sent to all RMA member CAOs and mayors / reeves providing detailed information on the time and process for the resolution session.
The resolutions that will be presented during the resolution session are available online here.
Resolution Amendments
Any members wishing to propose amendments to resolutions included in the resolution package are encouraged to email proposed amendments in advance of the session to RMA Senior Policy Advisor Wyatt Skovron at wyatt@RMAlberta.com, noting the resolution number in your email. Amendments can be made during the session but submitting in advance will support an efficient resolution process.
Emergent Resolutions
RMA’s resolution deadline for the 2020 Spring Convention was Friday, February 21, 2020. Any resolutions being brought forward after this date are considered emergent.
As per RMA’s resolution process policy, an emergent resolution is defined as a resolution submitted to RMA after the resolution deadline (February 21, 2020 for the 2020 Spring Convention) that deals with a subject or problem that has arisen subsequent to the resolution deadline. The RMA Resolutions Committee will meet prior to the resolution session to review any resolutions submitted after the resolutions deadline to determine if they meet the definition of emergent.
Due to the unique nature of the virtual resolution process, RMA has set a deadline of 4:00 pm on Friday, April 17 to submit emergent resolutions. If the Resolutions Committee determines that the submitted resolution meets the emergent criteria, RMA staff will work with the submitting member to ensure the resolution is added to the order paper and distributed electronically to all members prior to the resolution session. Questions on the emergent resolution process, as well as emergent resolutions can be submitted by email to RMA Senior Policy Advisor Wyatt Skovron at wyatt@RMAlberta.com.
