Earlier this year we sent out a survey on the Local Authorities Election Act (LAEA) after being notified by Municipal Affairs that a review on the act would be happening in time for updates to the act before the next municipal election.
The responses to the survey have been summarized and attached for your reference.
At the end of July, after submitting these survey responses, we received a discussion guide from Municipal Affairs in a limited scope review. Your responses to the AAMDC LAEA survey and subsequent input were used to populate this discussion guide.
We understand this review is aimed mainly at contributions by Unions and Corporations. A more comprehensive review may be considered after the next election. We look forward to seeing any amendments in the fall.
