Reminder: Government of Alberta Seeking Municipal Input on Cannabis Legalization Costs

The Government of Alberta is currently seeking input from Alberta municipalities on costs they have incurred in relation to cannabis legalization. The consultation supports a commitment in the UCP election platform.

Municipalities received an email with a survey link from Alberta Municipal Affairs earlier in October. The survey provides municipalities an opportunity to provide input on costs incurred related to cannabis legalization, including specific dollar figures (if available). The survey also asks about possible future costs municipalities expect to incur, as well as unique characteristics of their municipality that may impact costs.

The deadline for completion of the survey is November 1, 2019. The survey can be accessed by clicking here.

At this point, it is not known how the Government of Alberta will use the information or whether further consultations on municipal funding related to cannabis legalization costs will occur.
