This virtual session will take a deep dive into the possible formation of a provincial police service
Registration is open
for RMA and AUMA’s joint President’s Summit on Provincial Policing. The session, held virtually, will provide a detailed look into the potential impacts of the replacement of Alberta’s current RCMP policing model with a standalone provincial police force. As this idea is currently being studied by the Government of Alberta, this event will provide municipal representatives with a great opportunity to consider the benefits and challenges of a possible transition, should it take place.
The virtual session is being jointly hosted by RMA President Paul McLauchlin and AUMA President Barry Morishita. The session will feature a presentation from presidents McLauchlin and Morishita, as well as the following speakers:
- The Honourable Kaycee Madu, Minister of Justice and Solicitor General
- Deputy Commissioner Curtis Zablocki, Commanding Officer of the Alberta RCMP
- Brian Sauvé, Founder and Co-Director of the National Police Federation
The session takes place from 3:00 to 6:00 pm on Wednesday, February 17, 2021 and is open to representatives from all Alberta municipalities
. There is no fee for attending and no cap on the number of representatives from each municipality that may attend.
