This virtual session will take a deep dive into the possible formation of a provincial police service
Registration is open for RMA and AUMA’s joint President’s Summit on Provincial Policing. The session, held virtually, will provide a detailed look into the potential impacts of the replacement of Alberta’s current RCMP policing model with a standalone provincial police force. As this idea is currently being studied by the Government of Alberta, this event will provide municipal representatives with a great opportunity to consider the benefits and challenges of a possible transition, should it take place.
The virtual session is being jointly hosted by RMA President Paul McLauchlin and AUMA President Barry Morishita. The session will feature a presentation from presidents McLauchlin and Morishita, as well as the following speakers:
- The Honourable Kaycee Madu, Minister of Justice and Solicitor General
- Deputy Commissioner Curtis Zablocki, Commanding Officer of the Alberta RCMP
- Brian Sauvé, Founder and Co-Director of the National Police Federation
The session takes place from 3:00 to 6:00 pm on Wednesday, February 17, 2021 and is open to representatives from all Alberta municipalities. There is no fee for attending and no cap on the number of representatives from each municipality that may attend.
