Register for AAMDC Consultations on MGA Amendments

For the past two years, the Government of Alberta has been reviewing the Municipal Government Act, which provides the legal framework for Alberta’s municipalities and was last updated in 1995.

Later this month, it is anticipated that the Government of Alberta will be tabling a number of significant amendments to the MGA, at which time the Legislature will adjourn for the summer so that the government can consult on these amendments. The final legislation is expected to pass in fall 2016 and be in place for the next municipal elections in 2017.

To gather feedback from AAMDC members and to ensure they are informed of the proposed changes, the AAMDC will be hosting a series of consultations throughout the province. These events are for AAMDC members only and will take place in each of the five AAMDC districts. Members are not restricted to attending the workshop in their district, they are free to attend any of the five workshops.

As you may be well aware, the Minister of Municipal Affairs also intends to consult with Albertans on the MGA amendments and the AAMDC is making efforts to ensure the AAMDC events take place prior to the Minister’s events to help you better prepare for the Minister’s consultations.
