The RMA’s Quasi-Judicial Agencies Committee held its fourth meeting on August 23
On August 23, 2023, the Quasi-Judicial Agencies Member Committee held their fourth meeting. This committee will conclude in September and has been gathering information on several quasi-judicial agencies in Alberta, particularly how their approval processes impact rural municipal land use planning.
The following members are serving as district representatives:
- District 1: Kelly Christman, County of Newell
- District 2: Brent Ramsay, Red Deer County
- District 3: Doug Drozd, County of Barrhead
- District 4: Tyler Airth, Big Lakes County
- District 5: Cindy Trautman, Camrose County
- Chair: Jason Schneider, District 1 Director (Vulcan County)
At this meeting, the committee met with representatives from the Natural Resources Conservation Board (NRCB) and Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) to discuss their notification process, consideration of public interest, and compliance concerns. These discussions supplement information that was received through the member survey, which provides further insight into the experiences of rural municipalities in working with different quasi-judicial agencies.
The committee is using this information to create an outline for the final report that will be released in the fall. The RMA will update members on the committee’s process and next steps periodically.
