Environment and Climate Change Canada is seeking feedback on the proposed amendment to Schedule 1 of the Species at Risk Act
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) is inviting municipalities to provide feedback on the proposed amendment to Schedule 1 of the Species at Risk Act (SARA): the List of Wildlife Species at Risk. There are 21 terrestrial species being proposed to be added or updated, four of which are in the Prairie Region:
- Suckley’s Cuckoo Bumble Bee – eligible for addition to Schedule 1
- Manitoba Oakworm – eligible for addition to Schedule 1
- Plains Hog-nosed Snake – eligible for addition to Schedule 1
- Chestnut-collared Longspur – eligible to be reclassified from “Threatened” to “Endangered”
Feedback provided to ECCC will help the Government of Canada better understand the benefits and costs of these potential listings to municipalities and will inform the Minister’s recommendation on whether to:
- LIST the species under Schedule 1 of SARA
- NOT LIST the species under Schedule 1 of SARA
- Refer the species back to the Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada (COSEWIC) for further consideration.
Please provide all feedback on the Manitoba Oakworm, Plains Hog-nosed Snake, and Chestnut-collared Longspur by April 2, 2021. Please provide all feedback on the Suckley’s Cuckoo Bumble Bee by September 2, 2021.
To help guide feedback, ECCC has created a consultation guide, which provides several questions that are intended to frame comments on the proposed amendments to the List of Wildlife Species at Risk.
There are three ways to submit feedback:
- Email comments to registrelep-sararegistry.ec@canada.ca
- Complete ECCC’s online survey
- Mail comments to:
