Northern Alberta Flood Evacuees to Receive Financial Support on May 4

Government of Alberta announces funding for residents of northern Alberta who have been evacuated due to spring floods

On April 29, the Government of Alberta announced that residents of northern Alberta who have been evacuated by the spring floods will receive financial support of $1,250 per adult and $500 per dependent child. Evacuees can apply for the emergency evacuation payments online beginning May 4 at noon. The funding will be delivered online through Interac e-transfer. Residents will be required to provide a personal email address to receive the payment. Arrangements can be made for those who are unable to receive e-transfers by contacting the Alberta Supports Contact Centre at 1.877.644.9992.

Evacuees being sheltered in hotels and other accommodations will have their costs covered by the province and local municipalities. In cases where municipalities are required to cover evacuee costs, municipalities will be subsequently reimbursed by the province as part of the Government of Alberta’s Disaster Recovery Program.

The Government of Alberta will be posting more details about how to apply for this funding and the reimbursement process soon on the Active emergency updates page.
