New Water Licensing System Requires Action from Some Water License Holders

New online tool requires action from holders of a water license issued prior to November 2021.

The Government of Alberta has launched the Digital Regulatory Assurance System to help Albertans manage water licences and associated water use information including water use reporting, more efficiently. Action is required from anyone that holds a water licence that was issued prior to November 2021 and has not been renewed or amended since.

The Government of Alberta is moving water licences issued under the Water Act and precedent legislation such as the Water Resources Act to the Digital Regulatory Assurance System (DRAS) Portal. DRAS has accepted applications for Water Act licences and other types of water authorizations such as codes of practice since 2021. However, the records associated with water licences issued prior to 2021 are still housed in a series of older electronic and paper-based systems and need to be moved to the digital platform.

How to Move My Licence is available along with a quick video tutorial that provides step-by-step instructions on how to move a water licence to DRAS and gain access to improved features and services through this new platform.
