All Albertans are eligible for testing for COVID-19, whether they are symptomatic or not. Testing can be easily booked online by visiting www.ahs.ca/covid or by calling 811.
Testing can only determine whether a person has COVID-19 at the time of testing and cannot determine whether someone has previously had COVID-19 or assess immunity to COVID-19. Uptake of the expanded testing is important as it will provide Alberta Health Services (AHS) with a clearer picture of how well the public health measures are working to contain COVID-19 and help guide further progress in Alberta’s relaunch.
Individuals choosing to be tested are reminded of the following:
- It is not necessary to self-isolate while waiting for a test result if you remain asymptomatic.
- If your test result is negative, you may still develop COVID-19 if you have been exposed to the virus in the last 14 days. It is important to continue monitoring for symptoms.
- If your COVID-19 test result is positive, you would need to self-isolate for at least 10 days, even if you do not have symptoms. Anyone who has been in close contact with you would also have to self-isolate.
A poster outlining the provincial testing process is available. AHS encourages municipalities to display this in their communities or places of business to build awareness among all Albertans.
