The Government of Alberta has finalized an agreement with Bell to operate the Alberta SuperNet
The Government of Alberta has finalized an agreement with Bell to operate the Alberta SuperNet. This agreement is the culmination of a procurement process that began in 2016. At this time, details of the agreement are not yet available. According to Service Alberta, the transition of SuperNet operations from Axia to Bell has commenced and is currently underway. Service Alberta has reached a temporary agreement with Axia to ensure that SuperNet service will not be disrupted during the transition.
RMA has advocated to the Government of Alberta during the procurement process, calling for an agreement that requires the SuperNet operator to prioritize affordable public-sector connectivity and ensure reasonable access for internet service providers seeking to connect to the SuperNet to provide rural final-mile service. RMA looks forward to receiving more information on the agreement between the Government of Alberta and Bell, and reviewing how the agreement will support rural broadband access.
RMA will share more information on the agreement with members as it becomes available.
