MGA Tools and Resources for Municipalities

The AAMDC, in partnership with the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association (AUMA) and Alberta Municipal Affairs, has been working to develop change management resources to support municipalities in implementing new requirements under the revised Municipal Government Act (MGA). Based on input from members, the first tools that AUMA and AAMDC have developed focus on new intermunicipal collaboration, code of conduct and public participation requirements.

Councillor Code of Conduct: A Guide for Municipalities is a tool to help municipalities develop their local codes of conduct (S. 146).

Public Participation and Public Notification: A Guide for Municipalities is a tool to help municipalities develop public participation policies and a public notification bylaw.

Alberta Municipal Affairs has also developed a series of resources that are available here including a series of MGA Implementation Fact Sheets available here.

These resources are designed to reduce the effort and resources required by municipalities to be in compliance with the amended MGA. To ensure your municipality is in alignment, please access the MGA Legislative Checklist here.
