MGA Amendments – What Do You Need to Know as of April 1, 2018?

On October 26, 2017, the Government of Alberta approved three Orders in Council, proclaiming the majority of the amendments to the Municipal Government Act (MGA) into force either as of October 26, 2017, January 1, 2018, or April 1, 2018. Brownlee LLP has developed an article that focuses on the MGA amendments that came into force as of April 1, 2018 and are most likely to affect regular operations and practices of municipalities. The article covers the following topics:

  • Intermunicipal and Regional Collaboration
    • Intermunicipal Collaboration Frameworks (ICFs) and Intermunicipal Development Plans (IDPs)
  • Mandatory Municipal Development Plans
  • Offsite Levies for Connecting Provincial Highways
  • Subdivision and Development Appeal Board
    • Clerk and SDAB Member Training
  • Ombudsman Act
