Mark Your Calendar for Munis 101

Elected Officials Education Program (EOEP) is delivering Munis 101 with the support of Alberta Municipal Affairs to help meet the Municipal Government Act requirements for post-election council orientation.

Munis 101 sessions are being offered exclusively for summer villages in September as they hold their elections in the summer. The first summer village course will take place via four Zoom sessions from 2:30 to 4:30 pm every Tuesday, from September 14 to October 5. The second summer village course will also take place via Zoom sessions from 7:00 to 9:00 pm every Wednesday, from September 22 to October 13. Registration for these sessions is open on the EOEP site.

Following the October 18 local elections, 1.5 day in-person regional sessions are being held:

  • November 4 and 5 in Whitecourt
  • November 6 and 7 in Grande Prairie
  • November 9 and 10 in Bonnyville
  • November 15 and 16 in Edmonton (in coordination with AUMA convention)
  • November 22 and 23 in Edmonton (in coordination with RMA convention)
  • December 2 and 3 in Lethbridge
  • December 6 and 7 in Strathmore
  • December 9 and 10 in Three Hills

Registration for these courses will open later this summer.

In appreciation of the financial strain municipalities are under, EOEP is making every effort to keep registration fees low, while offering top quality education materials and experience. The registration fee for virtual sessions is $275 per person and $375 for in person sessions.

Munis 101 is the foundational course of our new Municipal Elected Leaders Certificate bestowed in partnership with the University of Alberta’s Augustana Extended Education. The certificate recognizes an elected leader’s commitment to ongoing education through the completion of all seven EOEP courses. Many urban and rural elected officials are already well on their way to receiving a certificate, so don’t miss out.
