Municipal leaders regularly face complex and controversial issues. Whether it is tension with a fellow councillor or difficulty balancing the demands of the position, sometimes talking with an impartial party who may have been in a similar situation can help put things into focus.
Did you know that Alberta has a network of peer mentors that you can call upon for advice? The Peer Network
program is a network of mentors that serve as advisors to their peers throughout Alberta. Each peer mentor brings years of municipal experience in either an administrative or elected role and has been trained in dispute resolution techniques. Conversations are kept strictly confidential.
Peer mentors are available to speak with you about any challenge you are facing in your role as an elected official. The Peer Network is a joint project of Alberta Municipal Affairs
, Alberta Rural Municipal Administrators’ Association (ARMAA)
, Local Government Administration Association (LGAA)
, Alberta Urban Municipalities Association (AUMA)
, and the AAMDC
. Each of the four associations nominate two individuals to serve as a peer mentor resulting in four elected officials and four current or retired CAOs being available.
