Alberta Municipal Affairs has produced a series of fact sheets, FAQs and other documents explaining changes to the Local Authorities Election Act (LAEA)
The Government of Alberta conducted a review of the LAEA in 2018, with most of the resulting amendments coming into force on January 1, 2019. To assist candidates for municipal office in understanding and complying with changes to the LAEA ahead of the next municipal election, the Government of Alberta has produced several documents providing an overview and direction on various aspects of the legislation, including the following:
- Campaign finance and contribution disclosure amendments
- Accountability and transparency amendments
- Voter accessibility amendments
- Third party advertising amendments
- General clarifying and technical amendments
- LAEA FAQs
