Municipal Affairs releases updates rules for council meetings and time extensions during the COVID-19 pandemic
Municipal Affairs has released an updated factsheet with new rules for municipal council meetings and the extension of upcoming deadlines during the COVID-19 pandemic. These changes have been made through the newly enacted Meeting Procedures (COVID-19 Suppression) Regulation.
Highlights of the new regulation include:
- Allowing for council meetings to be held entirely by electronic means
- Providing flexibility for conducting public hearings
- Extending various deadlines, and of particular note, ICFs and IDPs are now due April 2021
RMA welcomes these changes made by Municipal Affairs and appreciates their receptiveness to make changes necessary for municipalities to continue to function during the COVID-19 pandemic.
