Grainger Canada Steps Up to Support Municipalities Across Canada

In response to the global COVID-19 pandemic and the toll that it is taking on communities throughout Canada, Grainger Canada has stepped forward wherever possible to equip municipalities with sorely needed personal protective equipment (PPE) and supplies.

In the face of supply shortages – especially with PPE for frontline workers – Grainger Canada has made arrangements to fill orders from large and small municipalities alike with essentials such as hand sanitizer and rubber gloves. Without a company like Grainger making this initiative, smaller orders would typically be passed over in favour of bigger requests from large cities, presenting difficulties for municipalities that must continue to provide essential services.

“Our municipalities must continue to serve residents, even in the face of potential health risks,” said Jeff Barten, Energy & Asset Services Manager at LAS with the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO). “We are grateful to partners like Grainger Canada that can help protect our communities.”

Grainger’s ability to facilitate these requests is due largely to a cooperative procurement partnership between suppliers like Grainger and municipal associations throughout the country. Representing over 2,000 municipalities from coast to coast, municipal associations are able to combine their collective purchasing power to create an economy of scale that benefits both the public and private sectors.

“Working together with municipal and business partners across the country is what Canadians expect from their communities, especially in difficult times like these,” said Duane Gladden, Director of Business Services at the Rural Municipalities of Alberta (RMA).

Municipalities that are having difficulty procuring PPE or other supplies are encouraged to contact their province’s municipal association to leverage the cooperative purchasing systems.
