The Government of Canada has developed a campaign, FloodReady, which includes several informative resources to support Canadians in increasing their knowledge on flooding and act to reduce overland flooding risks. The Government of Canada identifies Flood Ready first steps that residents can utilize to increase their knowledge of flood preparation and resources available to support individual flood readiness.
Municipalities are encouraged to check out the federal resources that support making communities flood ready, noting that emergency management is a shared responsibility. The Government of Canada highlights the National Disaster Mitigation Program which provides funding to provincial governments that may collaborate with and redistribute funding to municipal governments to support risk assessments, flood mapping, mitigation planning, and investments in non-structural and small scale structural mitigation projects.
