Bill 29 introduces amendments to the Municipal Government Act to include machinery and equipment property as eligible for property tax incentives
On November 27, 2019, the Government of Alberta introduced Bill 29: Municipal Government (Machinery and Equipment Tax Incentives) Amendment Act. Bill 29 amends section 364.2 of the Municipal Government Act (MGA) to expand the ability of municipalities to apply multi-year property tax incentives to machinery and equipment properties.
Previously, amendments made to the MGA in June 2019 under Bill 7: Municipal Government (Property Tax Incentives) Amendment Act enabled municipalities to apply property tax incentives on non-residential property but did not include machinery and equipment property. This amendment does not change any other details of the property tax incentive regime created under Bill 7.
