As part of the Climate Leadership Plan, the Government of Alberta has prioritized methane reduction to aid in accelerating greenhouse gas reductions. To support this, the Government of Alberta recently announced that Emissions Reduction Alberta (ERA), formerly the Climate Change and Emissions Management Corporation, will provide funding to assist in reducing methane emissions by 45 per cent by 2025.
Emissions Reduction Alberta has earmarked a total of $40 million to support projects that demonstrate medium and long-term opportunities to reduce methane emissions in the oil and gas, agriculture, and landfill sectors. Funding is also available for projects that seek to improve the detection and quantification of methane emissions.
Municipalities pursuing prototype development, pilot projects, or demonstration projects to reduce methane emission reductions from landfills may be eligible to access funding through this competition process. Information regarding this funding opportunity is available here and the deadline for submissions is December 15, 2016.
