In the 2016 federal budget, the Government of Canada introduced a plan to invest $120 billion into infrastructure over the next ten years. The Government of Canada is soliciting input from stakeholders and the public on how to allocate funding for phase 2 of the plan. Phase 1 of the plan is currently underway, and includes the creation of public transit and water/wastewater funding for municipalities.
Phase 2 is more long-term in nature, and will likely involve funding into four broad areas:
To assist municipalities across Canada in providing input, the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) has introduced a new toolkit that can be used by municipalities to discuss the funding with their local member of parliament. The toolkit includes several tools such as:

- Some handy tips on using social media to promote your meeting
The AAMDC encourages members to provide input to the Government of Canada through formal consultation processes such as written responses, as well as by reaching out to their local MPs by utilizing the resources developed by the FCM.
