The Government of Alberta is seeking input on the design of reclamation securities for renewable energy projects
Environment and Protected Areas (EPA) is engaging with municipalities and other stakeholders on the design of reclamation securities to be used with renewable energy developments. EPA is seeking information on:
- The challenges and opportunities related to implementing mandatory security, including the option for landowners to choose either negotiating security directly with developers, or taking part in a new program for government-held security.
- What should government consider when implementing a government-held program for wind and solar reclamation security?
- How should security be calculated and when should it be required by EPA for wind and solar renewable energy operations?
There are several opportunities to engage with EPA:
- An introductory webinar on October 1 from 1:00 to 2:30 pm.
- Two detailed discussion sessions that will cover the same content:
- Written comments can be submitted until October 25 to renewables.reclamation.security.engagement@gov.ab.ca.
The RMA plans to submit written comments and will participate in the discussion sessions to share the RMA perspective on reclamation securities. Watch for a member guide to be shared shortly that will contain the RMA’s key messages for RMA members to consider including in their comments when participating in the engagement.
