Compensation Costs for Volunteer Firefighters

The Government of Alberta will help municipalities by reimbursing compensation costs for volunteer firefighters who have been deployed in areas affected by wildfires

The Government of Alberta is committed to supporting communities impacted by wildfires and protecting the health, safety, and wellbeing of everyone effected. To strengthen firefighting capacity in these communities, the government will help local authorities by reimbursing compensation costs for volunteer firefighters who have been deployed in areas affected by wildfires.

Any municipalities that have or are expecting to hire volunteer firefighters are encouraged to track expenses and be prepared to submit claims to the Alberta government for reimbursement. Although municipalities can set their own rates for compensation, the maximum reimbursement rates will be consistent with the Alberta Wildland Urban Interface guidelines and the Wildfire Payment Directive.

More details on the reimbursement process will be shared in the coming weeks. For further information, contact drp.info@gov.ab.ca.
