Come Together Alberta Conference

Alberta Urban Municipalities Association (AUMA) hosted its third Welcoming and Inclusive Communities conference May 15 – 17, 2018

The conference brought together municipalities, community leaders, not-for-profit organizations, and many other stakeholder groups that were critical to the conversation. The intent was to provide knowledge and inspiration to support action to eliminate racism, discrimination, and social exclusion. Over the three days, AUMA was successful is representing its theme of “Creating Hope and Taking Action”.  The conference, with support of the Government of Alberta, modeled inclusive practices for all attendees. Some initiatives included: gender neutral washrooms, diversity of cuisine, prayer or quiet room, and stenotype visual. The conference included workshops on a wide range of topics, including the following:

As evident from the workshop listing, the conference provided a variety of topics with captivating speakers. With the opportunity to network in between sessions and ask questions after each plenary, guests received a vast amount of information and guidance on how to successfully initiate positive change in their communities.
