At the recent AAMDC convention, the Minister of Municipal Affairs, Shaye Anderson, announced a new program that aims to provide relief to municipalities who have been required to submit education property tax requisitions on linear oil and gas properties on which they have been unable to collect those taxes from delinquent property owners.
The Government of Alberta has launched the Provincial Education Requisition Credit (PERC) program. The program is intended to offset the costs of the education property tax requisitions and may be applied retroactively to the 2015 tax year.
The term of PERC extends to the 2019 tax year and at that time, the province intends to review the PERC policy with respect to oil and gas properties in the 2019 tax year.
The program guidelines can be found here and the first application deadline is January 15, 2018. The Provincial Education Requisition Credit (PERC) application form can be found here.
Should you have any questions regarding this program, municipalities are requested to contact the Grants and Education Property Tax Branch, by email at TaxProgramDelivery@gov.ab.ca or toll-free at 310-0000, then 780-422-7125.
