The Alberta Electoral Boundaries Commission (AEBC) has been tasked with reviewing the existing boundaries and names for the 87 electoral constituencies. As part of the review process, stakeholders are able to provide comment through written or in-person submissions. The process by which those comments can be received is now online.
The AAMDC has developed a submission to the AEBC which is available here. The submission speaks to the need to ensure “effective representation” for all Albertans. President, Al Kemmere, will be presenting to the AEBC on Monday, January 16th, 2017 and this submission will guide that presentation.
As part of the review process, public hearings such as the one the AAMDC is presenting at will be held between January 16, 2017 and February 24, 2017. The schedule for those hearings can be found here. Please note that those wishing to make a presentation must register in advance. Please see the AEBC website for the registration details.
Those wishing to make a written submission can also do so before the February 8th, 2017 deadline. For more information on how to provide a written submission, click here.
The AAMDC encourages its members to participate in this process to ensure the collective voice of rural Alberta is heard and that Alberta’s rural communities continue to be represented in Alberta’s legislature.
