The AAMDC is surveying its members on unpaid property taxes related to linear, machinery and equipment, and non-residential assessments. As a result of the downturn in the price of oil in 2014, many insolvent or delinquent oil and gas operators within rural municipalities left unpaid property tax bills that, in many cases, are uncollectable. This has caused financial strain on rural municipalities who must continue to operate despite the shortfall in revenue. The Government of Alberta’s recent announcement of the Property Education Requisition Credit (PERC) program does provide some relief to a portion of the unpaid taxes but the concerns of municipalities still persist.
In 2016, the AAMDC surveyed members on this issue and aims to re-analyze the extent to which this issue still impacts our members and whether the issue has grown more severe as we continue to advocate for additional tools and support.
The survey is available here. It should take less than 3 minutes.
We ask our members to fill out the survey to their best knowledge by January 31, 2018.
