AAMDC Salutes Fort McMurray

Albertans won’t soon forget the wildfire that ravaged Fort McMurray and the RM of Wood Buffalo a year ago today that caused billions of dollars in damage and left thousands of families without homes.  This one year anniversary marks a significant incident in Alberta’s history and provides an opportunity to reflect on the resilience of Fort McMurray residents and the support that Albertans and Canadians provided during this time of need. This unfortunate event brought our province together and the strength that was demonstrated by Fort McMurray residents is humbling.

Fort McMurray is being rebuilt, and it will take time. The AAMDC would like to recognize the efforts of first responders in handling the wildfire, health care professionals in supporting the health and mental wellness of impacted residents, and for our AAMDC members who opened their communities and hearts during this difficult time.  As the transition from recovery continues, the AAMDC would like to acknowledge the leadership shown by the RM of Wood Buffalo council during this crisis. With the support of community leaders, governments, and industry, the rebuilding effort is well underway.

Alberta Strong is a theme that prevailed from the Fort McMurray wildfire for good reason.
