The Government of Alberta has recently tabled Bill 8 – An Act To Strengthen Municipal Governmentwhich proposes additional amendments to the Municipal Government Act (MGA) in addition to a number of other existing pieces of legislation.
The AAMDC has reviewed Bill 8 and has assembled a resource for members which can be accessed here.
As of April 26, 2017, Bill 8 is in second reading and it is anticipated that this bill will be passed in the spring 2017 legislative session. Therefore, the opportunity for engagement is limited though if AAMDC members have specific concerns, the AAMDC encourages members to forward their feedback to both the Government of Alberta, and the AAMDC.
