The Voting Opportunities Coordinator is responsible for ensuring the smooth implementation of the County’s voting procedures and delivering engaging election outreach events. This position will collaborate with the Election Team to develop voting procedures and voting station layouts that follow the legislative requirements. This position will also work with external partners to ensure voting stations are accessible and provides optimum flow for voters entering and exiting the voting stations.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities: 

  • Lead, plan and deliver mock elections to Grade 6 students and an information session for Grade 12 students
  • Working with the Project Manager, oversee special ballot processes and collaborate with the Election Administrator to process requests and prepare materials for mail out
  • Liaise with facility representatives to make plans for voting station access and set up
  • Visit voting stations prior to election day to assess accessibility and design layouts
  • Work with the Election Administrator to create a list of required voting station supplies
  • Coordinate, plan, pack and facilitate the distribution of voting station supplies
  • Collaborate on the development of voting and ballot counting procedures
  • Support the Election Team as needed by responding to inquiries on the phones and by email

Requirements

Qualifications & Skills

  • Post secondary diploma in a related field with one year of related experience
  • Experience working with legislation, such as bylaws, FOIP, the Local Authorities Election Act, and the Municipal Government Act is an asset
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to remain professional while working with internal and external clients (coworkers, the public, senior administration)
  • Experience with public speaking and event planning
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (O365, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint)
  • Strong organization and time management skills with the ability to work under pressure and at times, with a high volume of various tasks
  • Personal vehicle with the ability to travel within Strathcona County

Conditions of Employment:

  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s licence and submission of a 5-year Driver’s Abstract with less than 7 demerits
