Summary

We are now accepting applications for a full-time, permanent Utility Operator. In this role, you will be a vital part of our team, responsible for the operation, maintenance, and inspection of our water, wastewater, and storm drainage systems.

As a Utility Operator, your duties will include monitoring system performance, performing routine maintenance, and conducting inspections to ensure everything operates smoothly and efficiently. You will also be responsible for reading and recording meter data, identifying and troubleshooting issues, implementing solutions, and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the operation, maintenance, and inspection of water, wastewater, and storm drainage systems, including equipment and infrastructure.
  • Complete meter readings and associated service changes.
  • Responsible for meter installation and associated quality control.
  • Operate and maintain sanitary sewer camera equipment.
  • Capture and interpret data including but not limited to SCADA systems and construction drawings.
  • Respond to Alberta 1st Calls and complete all necessary documentation.
  • Ensure all records are maintained accurately and completed in the prescribed manner.
  • Assist the Utility Operator I in all aspects of water and wastewater operations.
  • Provide excellent public relations with both internal and external clients
  • Actively participate in Formal Workplace Inspections in areas of responsibility.
  • Review pertinent Hazard Identification, Assessment, and Control worksheets on an annual basis as required by the Municipal Health and Safety Program.
  • Follow all Safe Work Practices and Procedures.
  • Immediately report any unsafe conditions, potential work hazards, or incidents to Supervisor.
  • Participate in the rotational on-call system.
  • Work extended work hours or shift work, including evenings and weekends, as required.
  • Attend position-related seminars/courses as directed by the Manager.
  • Perform other duties as directed by the Manager.
  • Otherwise abide by all Town policies, procedures, directives, and best practices as determined by the Manager.

Requirements

REQUIRED AT POINT OF HIRE

  • Grade Twelve Diploma or equivalent
  • Physical strength, agility, and coordination sufficient to perform job tasks
  • Excellent interpersonal skills in dealing with internal and external clients
  • Ability to work in adverse environmental conditions
  • Ability to work various shifts, evenings, and weekends
  • Ability to work under limited supervision

REQUIRED TO ATTAIN AFTER HIRE

  • Vaccinations including Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Tetanus-Diphtheria
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Water and Wastewater Distribution and Treatment Level I certification
  • Alberta Class 3 Driver’s License with Airbrakes
  • Safety certification in TDG, First Aid, Confined Entry, Ground Disturbance 201
