Summary

Woodlands County has an exciting opportunity to build your career as part of our Environmental Services team. Reporting to the Manager of Environmental Services, this position is responsible for performing various duties in the operations of the County’s water and wastewater systems. This position ensures water safety and quality, in addition to operating water treatment, distribution, and wastewater collection and treatment. This position also aids with hamlet maintenance and other infrastructure projects as required.

Key Responsibilities

As a Utilities Technician you will:

  • Be responsible for day-to-day operations of the water and wastewater facilities.
  • Interpret operational and maintain accurate records of daily system operations and maintenance for operating license, risk management and trending purposes.
  • Conduct monthly inspections and maintenance of wastewater lagoons.
  • Be responsible for reading and recording information from motors, flow recorders, pressure/vacuumgauges, and any other equipment, as required.
  • Obtain meter readings for customer account charges and disconnections as required.
  • Maintain, repair, and install water meters and reading devices.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on the distribution and collection systems.
  • Oversee the execution of construction activities ensuring projects are completed on time, withinbudget, and in compliance with standards.
  • Attend water treatment plant, sewer lift stations treatment facilities and lagoons on emergency callouts based on rotating a on-call schedule.

Requirements

  • Grade 12 Diploma.
  • Level One Certification in water treatment, distribution, wastewater collection, and wastewater treatment. (Woodlands County may consider candidates willing to complete certification as a condition of employment).
  • Able to effectively communicate both verbally and written.
  • Basic computer skills to work with SCADA systems, Microsoft Office programs and software.
  • Able to work various shifts, weekends, on-call and work alone.
  • First Aid, Fire Extinguisher, TDG, WHMIS, SMS, Confined Space, Ground Disturbance, DefensiveDriving, certificates would be an asset.
  • A valid class 5 driver’s license required, or a valid class 3 would be an asset.
