The Town of Morinville is currently seeking a permanent full-time Team Lead, Public Works, to join the Infrastructure Services team. Reporting to the Operations Supervisor, this role oversees daily operations, coordinates work crews, and ensures the efficient delivery of public works services, including roads, infrastructure maintenance, snow removal, and municipal asset upkeep. This position oversees the full-time Equipment Operator positions, Public Works Operators II and Public Works Operators III, ensuring safety, quality, and productivity while supporting municipal goals and service standards.

Compensation/Hours of Work: This position is included within the scope of Morinville’s CUPE 2426 local bargaining unit and has a probationary wage of $38.11 per hour. Upon completion of 480 hours the wage rate increases to $40.71 per hour, and upon completion of 4,160 hours the wage rate increases to $43.46 per hour, which will be applied in accordance with the Collective Agreement. Key Responsibilities

  • Operate municipal equipment to perform all-season maintenance activities for public works operations, including roadways, sidewalks, parking lots, and snow storage facilities, while ensuring safety and applying equipment-specific skills and techniques.
  • Maintain accurate records of daily, weekly, and monthly operations, including vehicle inspections, snow clearance checklists, material usage, and daily timesheets.
  • Monitor the budget, providing cost assessments and summaries for municipal programs and projects.
  • Assist in setting and approving employee schedules for effective daily operations.
  • Ensure employees perform daily maintenance checks and weekly servicing on all equipment, ensuring adherence to operational work procedures.
  • Provide feedback on maintenance requirements related to Morinville’s transportation infrastructure.
  • Participate in equipment assessments and contribute to equipment purchasing and replacement decisions.
  • Provide on-the-job training to new and current employees and mentor employees to improve skills and performance.
  • Conduct hazard assessments, worksite inspections, safety meetings, and incident investigations to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Support the collection and analysis of data to evaluate service levels.
  • Participate in a rotating on-call schedule and work various shifts, including weekends, as required.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma is required (equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered).
  • Preference will be given to candidates with a Certificate or Diploma from a College or Technical Training Institute.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience operating equipment in municipal and transportation operations.
  • Minimum of three (3) years with supervisory experience is required.
  • Valid Class 3 Drivers License with Q Endorsement (Air Brakes) is required.
  • Valid First Aid & CPR Certification is required.
  • Ability to operate loader, snow blower, skid steer, grader, single axle, tandem, snow plow, and backhoe.
  • Prior experience with installing concrete, laying asphalt, road line painting and sign installation.
  • Knowledge of parks and utilities operations is an asset.
  • Proficient in basic computer software, with hands-on experience in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Exceptional customer service skills, with the ability to interact professionally and effectively with the public, as well as internal and external stakeholders.
  • Physical ability and dexterity to perform a variety of manual tasks (heavy lifting, squatting, bending, twisting, and climbing).
  • Strong reading, writing, and mathematical skills, with the ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
  • The successful candidate will be required to provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Driver’s Abstract consent form.
