Summary

The Town of Morinville is currently seeking a permanent full-time Supervisor, Facility Operations to join our team. Reporting to the Manager, Community Services, this position will lead and manage the staff teams responsible for daily operations of key municipal facilities, including the Morinville Leisure Centre, Community Cultural Centre, and other essential infrastructure. In this role, you will oversee a dedicated team of unionized and non-unionized staff, ensuring the effective delivery of maintenance, operational, and custodial services. Your technical expertise in arena and venue operations, combined with strong leadership skills, will help balance the needs of the facilities, staff, and customers. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, supervise, and develop a diverse team of full-time, part-time, and casual staff, including overseeing scheduling, performance management, hiring, training, and adherence to collective agreements.
  • In conjunction with key leadership staff, coordinate staff operations, ensuring proper coverage, vacation approval, cross-training, and fostering a positive, efficient, and safe work environment with a focus on teamwork and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee facility operations, ensuring high standards of maintenance, cleanliness, and safety while managing contracts, budgets, assets, and external service providers to optimize performance and cost-efficiency.
  • Prepare and execute annual work plans, coordinate resources, prioritize operational needs, and conduct site visits to maintain quality, address risks, and enhance facility usage.
  • Implement and oversee Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) protocols, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and the Town’s safety program.
  • Conduct safety inspections, lead safety meetings, and support staff training, incident review, and corrective actions to maintain a safe working environment for staff and patrons.
  • Oversee operational and capital budgets, ensuring fiscal responsibility and implementing strategies to optimize facility performance, maintenance, and long-term asset management.
  • Support the Town’s asset management program by conducting condition assessments, developing preventative maintenance plans, and creating multi-year strategies to address asset acquisition and deterioration.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure proper electronic filing of all necessary documentation.

Requirements

  • Post-Secondary education in Recreation Facility Management or a related field.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in a management or supervisory role within an arena or recreation facility, or equivalent experience.
  • A valid Class 5 Drivers Licence is required.
  • Alberta Level 2 Arena Operator Certification or equivalent is required.
  • Valid First Aid & CPR Level C Certification is required.
  • Proven experience in coordinating and managing the technical aspects of events.
  • Strong leadership skills in hiring, coaching, and developing diverse teams, including unionized staff.
  • Solid understanding of facility management functions, maintenance of critical systems, and OHS standards.
  • Experience in project management, training, auditing, and technical writing.
  • Excellent negotiation, conflict resolution, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in high-pressure situations.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with proficiency in all Microsoft Office programs.
  • The successful candidate will be required to provide a criminal record check and drivers abstract as a condition of employment.
