The Sponsorship and Promotions Coordinator will lead the implementation of all marketing, communication, and sponsorship initiatives for the 2026 Alberta Summer Games, a multi-sport event supporting approximately 2,000 athletes, coaches, and technical officials. The Alberta Summer Games will take place between July 16-19, 2026.

This position focuses on implementing sponsorship and communications strategies, which also includes managing priorities, creating compelling sponsorship content, and overseeing the planning, implementation, and reporting of all related activities. This role will work closely with the Games Coordinators who are responsible for participant experience; sports and facilities; ceremonies, culture and volunteers; as well as finance, administration, registration and results.

The ideal candidate will possess exceptional problem-solving skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with the Games Manager and the sponsorship and marketing teams in Recreation Parks & Culture to develop and implement the sponsorship and communications strategy that adheres to Strathcona County’s corporate guidelines and the requirements as defined in the provincial Games Operations Manuals
  • Oversee the branding and merchandising strategy to support revenue generation and brand awareness
  • Lead the Games communications priorities including writing news releases, e-newsletters, coordinating earned and paid media, volunteer recruitment, website content management and all digital and print media requirements including signage
  • Provide strategic direction and supervision to contract Graphic Design and Digital Media Specialists
  • Plan, coordinate and publish content on the Games social media channels and seek opportunities to amplify, interact with and share user-generated content
  • Research and source potential sponsors to support the financial responsibilities of hosting the games, as well as negotiate, develop, and finalize agreements for both financial and in-kind service sponsorships
  • Plan/host, sponsor, partner and delegate networking events leading up to and during the games, including public speaking at networking events to support promotion of the games, foster connections, and generate leads for sponsorships and advertising opportunities
  • Adhere to the sponsorship and promotions budget, oversee and administer funds to ensure timely and effective use of budget dollars to meet the event needs

Requirements

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Post-secondary degree in business/commerce, marketing, communications, sport and recreation management or a related discipline with a minimum of 1-year related work experience, or; a post-secondary diploma in one of these areas with 3 years of work experience in marketing, communications or sponsorship may be considered
  • A proven track record developing sponsorship programs, drafting agreements, generating revenue, and managing the sponsorship cycle from initiation to fulfillment and reporting
  • Proficiency working in administrative and business management systems such as Microsoft Office 365 and SharePoint
  • Strong working knowledge of content creation applications including website content management systems (Django), Adobe Creative Suite, Google Analytics, Canva and social media
  • Demonstrated experience directly managing social media accounts is an asset
  • Political acumen is an asset
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
